Research

We believe new imaging tools enable new discoveries. We conduct multidisciplinary research, creating optical imaging techniques and applying them to pursue biological insights. Please see “Publications” and “News” for recent updates.

Imaging Contrast

Building on the unique imaging scale and speed of optical coherence tomography, we develop and integrate structural, functional, molecular and biomechanical contrasts to enable critical imaging capabilities for fundamental biological studies.

Live and Intravital Imaging

Understanding biological processes is foundational for the advancement of health. Targeting on the hidden biological processes, we develop dynamic imaging approaches for volumetric visualization and assessment in the living organism.

Developmental Biology

Biological development is a fascinating process, and its underlying mechanisms can illuminate many areas of biomedicine. Focusing on the heart and brain development, we apply multi-contrast imaging to assess the emerging cues that regulate morphogenesis.

Reproductive Biology

We apply intravital imaging and quantitative analysis to reveal the role of the oviduct (fallopian tube) in the oocyte/embryo transport and investigate the functional cause of embryo retention inside the oviduct, a prerequisite of tubal ectopic pregnancy.

Ovarian Cancer

We apply our imaging tools to study the metastatic process of ovarian cancer, especially the tissue-level dynamics post chemotherapy.
